Great American Cleanup set to target Lakefront Trail
Volunteers to patrol trail for litter on Saturday, May 19
LITTLE ELM (May 15, 2018) Little Elm’s annual participation The Great American Cleanup is scheduled for Saturday, May 19 from 10 a.m. to noon. With crews concentrating on litter pickup along the Lakefront Trail.
The trail, popular with walkers, runners and bikers, connects McCord Park, 2050 FM 423, on the Town’s eastern edge with Beard Park within the Lakefront District. Cleanup volunteers will start at McCord Park and police the trail, the parks and the various creek beds that crisscross the trail, making their way westward.
Sponsors include the Town of Little Elm, Community Waste Disposal, FLIX Brewhouse, Alpha Fence and Kroger Marketplace. A limited number of commemorative T-shirts and Kona Ice Sno Cones will be distributed to volunteers who register at http://www.littleelm.org/489/Keep-Little-Elm-Beautiful.
Participants of all ages are welcome, but those under 14 years of age must be accompanied by an adult, and each person participating should register individually.
A bag containing cleanup supplies will be provided at the starting point prior to the 10 a.m. start. These supplies include trash bags, gloves, hand sanitizers and other useful items. Participants should wear appropriate clothing, especially closed-toe shoes, and everyone should bring enough drinking water for themselves and their party. Participants may also bring along their trash grabbers or other items that will help the process.
The Great American Cleanup is a sanctioned event by the Keep Little Elm Beautiful organization and counts toward the group’s eligibility in the Keep Texas Beautiful organization.
It’s a rain or shine event, unless the weather is too severe or presents dangerous conditions. Notice of cancelation or postponement will be posted on the Little Elm website.
Plentiful parking is available behind the Racetrack Convenience Store near the McCord Park entrance.
