Guidelines

  • When you volunteer, you not only help the Library, you serve our community while earning volunteer hours in return. The Library strives to provide a positive volunteer experience but volunteers are responsible for respecting the Library and Town policies.
  • Volunteers are accepted for school, value-added, and court ordered community service. Some restrictions apply: please contact the Library for more information.
  • Volunteers must be 13 years or older and any volunteer under the age of 18 must have permission from a parent or guardian. 

*Please note, we do not accept court ordered volunteers. Please contact the Town of Little Elm Parks and Recreation Center for court ordered volunteer opportunities: 972-731-3296.

Keys to Volunteer Success

Have a great attitude

We're glad you're here and hope you are happy to work with us! Please teat others as you would like to be treated and respect our staff, other volunteers, and Library patrons.

Avoid distractions

Please stay focused and avoid socializing during your shift, including with friends and family members. 

Avoid cell phone use while volunteering.

Drinks in closed containers are allowed, however, eating is not permitted while volunteering. 

Be professional

Please show up when scheduled and be on time.

Notify the Library as far in advance in possible if you will be late or can not make your scheduled time. 

Five cancellations or no-shows will result in dismissal from your volunteer duties.

Dress code

Treat your volunteer assignment as if you were going to a job. Dress comfortably but please avoid:

  • Clothes that are too tight or baggy
  • Clothes that are dirty or have holes
  • Clothes that might leave you "exposed: including shirts too high or skirts too short 
  • Open toed shoes and house shoes
  • Clothes with offensive words, phrases, or pictures 

Library staff reserve the right to dismiss volunteers who violate the volunteer guidelines.

Volunteer duties may include, but are not limited to: 

  • Shelve and straighten materials
  • Empty book drops
  • Shelf read
  • Search for a pull requested items
  • Help with programs and events
  • Set up and take down displays 
  • Keep the Library clean and tidy

Monday-Thursday: 10 a.m.-8 p.m.
Friday: 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
Saturday-Sunday: 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
